Why the prophetic?

Because “the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
2 Corinthians 3:6 KJV

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is prophetic. Moses writer of the first five books was a prophet. John the Revelator ends the Bible with prophecy. The Holy Bible is a God inspired book of many books inspired through the agency of man. God spoke it and men wrote it. Surely Moses was not there at the beginning but he knew the God that was and he sat and wrote according to what he heard. Surely John was not at the culmination of time but he sat and wrote what he saw.

The Bible starts with a prophet and ends with a prophecy. And then closes with one of the most powerful prophetic statements of all, “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10 NIV

If we believe that the Bible is inspired by God meaning “God breathed”, then interpretation of what is written within it must come by revelation and spiritual discernment.

All too often, people seek to understand the letter of the word and miss the spirit of the word. The spirit of the word is the spirit of prophecy. Prophecy reveals and gives insight to spiritual truths. Human reasoning cannot understand the depth of God.

Funny how all the prophets of old through time and stages agreed without schism but you can’t get church folk today to agree on what these same prophets wrote. Christianity literally has hundreds of denominations that disagree on almost every point in the Bible. How can two walk together if they do not agree. Is Christ divided?

Surely there are false prophets amongst us, people who lack the spirit of God and thus cannot interpret the word of God.

Why the prophetic?

It is the voice of God that declares…
…the heart of God.
…the mind of God.
…the will of God.

The prophetic…
…hears.
…discerns.
…declares.

The prophetic is God’s mouthpiece. God has not stopped speaking.

Why the prophetic? The prophetic is the eyes of God within the eyes of man.

The prophetic sees…
…through time.
…through hearts.
…intents of men.

Let’s look at the prophet Samuel for a moment, when he spoke, the people that believed and had no doubt that it was God speaking. When the Samuel spoke, people listened. Kings and priests listened.

There was such respect and honor given to him as a prophet that the people dared not approach the prophet without a gift. (1 Samuel 9:8) It was not out of arrogance that Elijah asked for the first piece of bread from the widow. (1 Kings 17:12) There is a way of honoring the prophet.

Why the prophetic? Because the prophetic it is necessary for inspiration and direction. So much so that God gave us prophets as well as teachers, apostles, evangelists and pastors to equip us for the work of the ministry.

Unfortunately because of the lack of truly anointed prophets in modern day Christianity, many disregard the importance of prophets and prophecy. Yes, we all can prophesy and should desire to prophesy, yet we are not all prophets.

Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 1 Corinthians 12:30 NKJV

Why the prophetic? Because we are called to set the world ablaze.

We are a prophetic people.
